Biography

Dr. Rosecan was born in Washington, DC and raised in St. Louis. Growing up the son of a prominent internist and endocrinologist, Dr. Lauren R. Rosecan’s natural predilection toward medicine ensured that his family’s legacy in medicine would continue along with his two brothers who went into psychiatry.

“I was accidentally blinded, crippled, and almost died as a child. The blindness affected me the most and changed my life forever because I prayed to God for help and God heard and answered my prayers. I promised God that I would dedicate my life to save people from blindness and I have kept that promise.”

Dr. Rosecan was a retina surgery fellow & faculty member at the New York Hospital Medical Center where he practiced in Manhattan and West Chester County before moving to Florida in 1987 where he founded the Retina Institute of Florida, his private practice in the diseases, laser, and treatments of the retina. 

Today, Dr, Rosecan has a successful ophthalmology practice in South Florida, The Retina Institute of Florida has locations in Boca Raton, Palm Beach Gardens, Stuart, and opening soon in Port St Lucie.

Education

  • Attended Yale University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude with a BA. in Molecular Biochemistry & Biophysics
  • He then accepted an MD/PHD scholarship Medical Scientist Training Program of the National Institute of Health at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where he completed doctoral research and dissertation on diabetic retinopathy
  • Dr. Rosecan completed his surgery internship at The Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia
  • He then did his Ophthalmology Residency where he was chief resident, and Retina Surgery Fellowship at The New York Hospital – Cornell Medical Center
