      Our Crocodile Tears

Crocodile Tears is a new artificial tear drop developed in the operating room by a board certified ophthalmologist with over 40 years of clinical experience as an eye surgeon. He made a solution of the clear viscoeoastic gel that all the eye surgeons around the world have used for 40 years. The cataract surgeons use it to protect the cornea from the inside of the eye when they remove the cataract and insert the intraocular lens implant. The retina surgeons use it to coat the cornea on the outside of the eye to get a clear view through the microscope to operate on the retina in the back of the eye. The doctor used a couple of vials of the clear gel and mixed it with clear balanced salt solution, tried it on his own eye and then passed it around to the nurses, anesthesiologists and technicians. They all loved how it felt and it cleared their vision. He thought of the name Crocodile Tears because that is what Aesop’s Fable called artificial tears which is what they are. He also thought of a couple of rhymes to help people remember the name.
